Soil-structure interaction analysis
We support structural engineers with our interpretation of site investigation data and derivation of advanced non-linear ground models and groundwater flow regimes. These are implemented into 2D and 3D finite element analysis models together with the sub-structure properties and geometry to produce realistic predictions of soil-structure interaction. Outputs include structural forces, such as raft bending moment, ground movement and spring stiffness values for structural analysis models.

Ground movement analysis
Our major towns and cities are getting crowded and it is difficult to construct a basement or bore a tunnel without the resulting ground movement affecting a neighbour’s property, listed buildings, an adjacent utility service or nearby transport infrastructure asset. We use advanced non-linear 3D finite element analysis (FEA) to produce more accurate predictions of ground movement to get planning permission for proposed developments.

Crane and working platforms
A stable working platform is critical to the safe operation of cranes, piling rigs and similar plant. They are unusual structures in that ground settlement can quickly cause an unsafe situation – if differential settlements are too large, plant becomes unstable and may topple.
