Who we are

Andrew is the founder of Geofem and has extensive knowledge and over 20 years of experience in geotechnical engineering. He is an expert in the use of numerical analysis tools for geotechnical engineering. He has written and reviewed many papers, books, vlogs, and e-learning content.

Notably, he wrote the popular textbook published by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

He is a member of the NAFEMS Geotechnical Working Group. This group is preparing guidance in the field of geotechnical analysis. He is also a founding member of the Professional Simulation Engineer scheme.

He was part of a team which revamped Eurocode 7 Part 1. This code will be the first to include clauses dedicated to numerical methods in geotechnical design.

He is a Chartered Engineer. He is also a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the British Geotechnical Association. Additionally, he is a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Southampton - his alma mater.

Skevi has 20 years of experience of applying satellite remote sensing techniques to civil engineering projects. Her unique combination of expertise enables her to adapt state-of-the-art satellite technology to the needs of the infrastructure, mining and energy sectors. She has coordinated several innovation projects on satellite remote sensing applications in civil engineering for the European Space Agency and other national and European funding bodies. She is a founding member of the Field Monitoring committee (TC220) of the ISSMGE, steering group member for CIRIA guidance documents on natural slopes and InSAR applications and has presented and published work extensively in the area of satellite remote sensing and civil engineering. Her BEng and MSc degrees were obtained at City University in London and her PhD at the University of Southampton.

Dimitris’ expertise lies in the programming of algorithms to process optical and radar remote sensing data and their visualisation in GIS for the study of ground displacement and natural hazards. He has also supported East Med offshore gas drilling operations with HASP and Field Plan maps using GIS for three drilling operations and Environmental Impact Assessment data collection. Following his degree studies at the University of Manchester, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Cyprus University of Technology on the use of optical and radar remote sensing for water quality assessment, oil spill mapping, ocean wind field estimation and archaeological prospection. He is nearing completion of his MSc studies on Geographical Information Science at Lund University, Sweden. 

Chris specialises in the application of finite element analysis, in particular Plaxis 2D and 3D software, to geotechnical design problems including ground movement analyses, soil-structure interaction studies, heavy load-out simulations and geohazard assessments. His MSc degree studies at Delft University of Technology focussed on numerical modelling as did his thesis on simulation of dyke instability. Prior to joining Geofem he worked for three years as a geotechnical engineer at CRUX Engineering and as a Software Quality Engineer at Plaxis in Delft.

Styliana’s academic studies combined the fields of geology through her first degree at the University of Patras and remote sensing through her Master’s degree at the Cyprus University of Technology. She gained valuable experience working with real soil and rock samples in a testing laboratory before joining us to work in the fields of remote sensing and geohazards.

Iphigenia brings a broad range of skills and experience to support us in many areas of the business. She has worked in roles including marketing, training, legal and business management, including for six years at the London Borough of Barnet. She gained her bachelor and master’s degrees at University College London and Royal Holloway University of London respectively.

Hamzah has a wealth of experience and qualifications in the field of geotechnical design, particularly in the application of numerical analysis. His career spans 10 years and over 3 countreis, include roles in academia, site investigations, consulting, and construction. After graduting from the university of Khartoum with a BSc in Civil Engineering, Hamzah worked in Saudi Arabia as a geotechnical engineer before studying for his MSc in Geotechnical Engineering at the Kind Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia. He then continued as a geotechnical engineer for over 4 years in Bahrain, specialising in the design of micro-piled, post-tensioned rafts. Alongside design work, Hamzah was a visiting lecturer at the University of Bahrain and has authored publications on the characterisation of granular materials and the application of GIS in faoundation design among others.

Brian began his career in the installation of 4G cable networks before going full time as a software developer in fintech. Carrying a BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and an MSc in Data Science and Engineering from the Cyprus University of Technology, his true passion is for computer science and coding. At Geofem, Brian works with in-house algorithms, improving the efficiency and adaptability of satellite data programs and processes through coding.

Maria is a geoinformatics specialist with a BSc in Geology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her Masters degree in Geography and Applied Geoinformatics from the University of the Aegean focuses on applications in the natural environment and risk management. Both of her theses are based on earth observation data and its application to natural oil seepage detection and spatial and temporal analysis.

Vishnu has been working with satellite remote sensing since beginning his Masters degree in 2017. Studying in India and Thailand, he has accrued qualifications in civil engineering and geographic information systems. He has also worked as a research and lab assistant within the field of construction, applying InSAR to the design of dams, and micro-irrigation projects. Vishnu is currently studying for a PhD in Satellite Remote Sensing at the University of West Attica in Greece.

Natalia holds a Bachelors degree in Mathematics and Statistics, and is nearing completion of a Masters degree in Data Science. Her knowledge of interpreting data through statistics assists in examining the performace of our machine learning algorithms.

Bala has over seven years' experience in deformation studies using SAR and interferometry techniques. He holds a PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology which featured a dissertation on the "Monitoring of Glacier Dynamics using Synthetic Aperture Radar Techniques". Bala is most passionate about the geophysical applications of interferometry and predicting natural hazards by using remote sensing methodologies.
